Experimentation

Took this photo yesterday and decided to play around with it. The more I look at this creation, the more it makes me feel uneasy. Making it a bit spooky was my intention. How does it make you feel?

Monaco

I took this photo in Europe last year in Monaco (Villefranche to be exact). I tweaked this one a little bit just to emphasize the orange in the building so that there is a stronger contrast with the blue sky.

Shutter Speed: 1/197 second
Aperture: F/11.0

Depth of Field

This photo was taken at the Etobicoke Creek and the intention when I took this photo was to play around with depth of field (DOF). DOF refers to the areas of the photograph that remain in focus (anything in front or behind the main focus point). DOF is affected by the aperture (or f-stop). The bigger the aperture (smaller f-number), the more shallow the DOF. This will cause anything in front of or behind the focus point to appear blurred. The smaller the aperture (larger f-number), the greater the DOF. Anything in front of or behind the focus point will also appear sharp. In this photo, the aperture was set to f/5. The range of f-numbers for my camera is f/4.5 - f/29. Since f/5 is a smaller f-number, you can see that the background of the flower (the focus point) is blurred.

Photography Blog

I decided to start a blog to share my photographs and to discuss photography in general. I thought it would be a good way to not only post my work but to share ideas and tips with others and hopefully gather a few tips as well. I first started digital photography about a year ago and have really enjoyed it. The camera that I currently use is the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS which has proven to be perfect for my skill level (amature) and needs. It definitely has enough features which has allowed me to exercise my creativity. Another hobby of mine is manipulating my photos to make it more interesting. The photo editor that I like to use GIMP 2.

The above photograph was taken at night with the following:

Shutter Speed: 30/1 second
Aperture: F/29.0
Focal Length: 33 mm
ISO Speed: 1600

I used GIMP to change the colour for the green night vision-ish look.
